Should we fear hackers? Intention is at the heart of this discussion. – Kevin Mitnick
I have not once thought of pursuing security as my career. I never even know it was a career path for us [in I.T.] until I got immersed in the field.
When I was studying Computer Engineering, it was either programming, embedded systems, robotics, or networking. Most of the girls pursue networking/system administration and I was one of them.
If you wanted to have a bird’s eye view of how network security works, the document below would give the necessary information without boring you. It’s only a 36 page document with cartoons brought to you by Japanese animators.
If you have a spare 1.5 hours also, the movie Takedown is a real life story of a world renowned hacker. It blew my mind and made me more interested in the field I am pursuing. I.T. is very broad — I would encourage everyone to be versatile as well in their expertise. But how cool it is to be the hero that defends against bad hackers? I dunno if it’s just me — but it’s dope.
Let me know what you think of the document/movie in the comments section below.
Stay safe,
Abby
