Choose a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life. – Confucius
For people who knew me in a while, I posted some of my heartbreaking moments in my career before. I have reflected and acknowledged my lapses as a professional. This year has been a very fruitful year for my career as I think I have finally found where I belong.
Our team comprises of 7 security engineers (including our team lead) and 1 Information Security Manager (ISM). Would you believe the team started with one engineer and grew from there in less than a year? Our TL is truly amazing and inspiring. Hadn’t he pushed through despite the ordeals, the team will not grow to what it is right now.
What I like about the dynamics of our team is we are different people of different personalities but for some reason, we understand our own quirks. I couldn’t fathom the reason behind it. We support each other, we encourage each other and we want each other to progress in our knowledge/career. No BS, really! 😉
We’ve been with each other a couple of months already and I can proudly say every day is a bright day at work with these lads.
When we first had our “team bonding” at Sentro, there were only six of us and it was due to the curiosity of what sinigang na corned beef is. How oligarch! hahaha.
Fast forward, we have two additional engineers who need more influence to be a healthy bullier. hahaha.
The team went to The Brewery to celebrate a couple of milestones.
- Jian, Ruel and Andrew’s bonus
- Carlo and Renier’s regularization
- Julius and Reggie being new members of the team (first blood)
- Bonus: the birth of the werewolf gang
Again, like Sentro, The Brewery was chosen by my high profile / high maintenance/oligarch manager. (joke lang boss wag mo ko isesesante. hahaha) Apparently, none of us but him have been there and he mentioned that their beers are brewed there. (Duh, the brewery nga)
What made the night super fun is the introduction of a game called “Werewolf”. We don’t have the cards so we have to improv.
Renier asked for a pen and paper and he wrote the following: villager, seer, a werewolf. Those were the first characters in the game. Since there were 7 of us and he’s the game master, there were 5 villagers, 1 seer, and 1 wolf. (We’re not allowed to tell each other who we are, except the Seer)
The plot is held at day and night. It started with the daytime wherein a wolf killed a villager. We will then speculate who is the wolf amongst us. It’s a consensus. Whoever we chose will be hanged — if what we have suspected isn’t the werewolf, then we killed an innocent villager. When the GM says, “goodnight everyone” we will then close our eyes. The wolf will then open his eyes and tell the GM whom he will eat and die. The Seer will then be awoken and will point at anyone to guess if it’s the wolf, and the GM will confirm if it is correct. The seer can then strategize how he will use this information — or he can also reveal that he is the seer.
By morning, the one that wolf kills will be out in the game and the game continues until the werewolf is captured or there are only 2 people left in the game and in that case, the werewolf wins because he will kill that person. It doesn’t sound like fun but the strategy to kind of deceive your teammates that you aren’t a werewolf is just so enthralling.
What’s hilarious as well is how we trust each other less in the game and we grow suspicious with each other. hahaha. Another character was then introduced in the game, a guard. The guard has the power to protect someone who may potentially be killed by the werewolf. If what he chose to protect is also someone that the werewolf intended to kill that night, then that person will not be eaten. Reggie was the most excellent guard that night.
Opposite as it may seem, the security team are actually a bunch of introverts. We were heading home before 9 pm already on a Friday. hahaha. Good job guys! Anyhow, capping off this post by sharing with you all how awesome the food is in The Brewery, and some beers we had.
