“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” – Aesop
I turned a year older last week and it was a little scary because I am one of those people who still haven’t figured their sh*t out. (I guess most of us still hasn’t at this point right?)
I was expressing this to Axel when he told me to be grateful because I am very different now to who I was when he met me last 2013.
I was dependent before and immature compared to the person I am today who lives alone in an apartment with my furbaby Rem and does chores myself.
Looking back, it was horrible. A lot of wrong decisions, wrong relationships and there was a 3-4 year gap that I consider counter-intuitive and should’ve been spent somewhere productive.
But the past should stay in the past right? This year isn’t perfect but it taught me a lot in life. There will be constant ups and downs, but I’d like to think that my experiences have equipped me to be stronger.
My birthday celebration started a week before my birthday when my college friends WonderPetz and I went to UNLI in QC to have their unlimited wings, pizza, pasta, rice, shrimp and iced tea. Then we had coffee and double chocolate pecan in Starbucks.
The day before my birthday, my friends from NT Summer Equinox Grace and Cheska invited me for dinner and coffee. We went to Mendokoro Ramenba in BGC and then had coffee in Single Origins. It was really rare of me to go out on a weeknight because I needed to tend to my furbaby Rem but my 6 hours with them was well spent. It’s always #TIL with them. Thank you for the dinner Achi Grace and the PB and for the coffee and cake Ches! I appreciate the time spent with you gals.
On the day of my birthday, I went to work and was greeted by my teammates/officemates. They are part of the good things that happened to me this year and I am grateful for them also. I ordered two monster pizzas from Jugno’s Monster Pizza and the Network and Security Team feasted on it. No good snippets but still happy to have spent this year’s birthday with them.
A though went out of his way to send me a preserved flower from Bloomiere. He also sent a mango passion fruit cake from Caramia because he knows I love mangoes + gelato and there were times I mention it to him when my cravings are off the roof. Lastly, he got me a Manduka mat from Certified Calm because he knows how much yoga has made me a better person and how my sweaty palms and feet need the love of a Manduka mat. Beyond any material gifts, he and Rem and I know we yearn for the moment where there will be no timezone difference anymore. Soon.
I worked out after work at Physique 57 then had dinner with my dad. I am very proud I came from a simple family so anywhere I bring my dad is special for him. We had a simple dinner at Arroz Ecija in Uptown Mall and we headed home. Snippets of awesome Filipino food below.
After the awesome dinner, my dad and I went home to my apartment and he wished me a happy birthday before he headed home to Las Piñas. I also couldn’t thank you guys enough for taking the time to message me on Instagram and Facebook messenger. I turned a year older but with it, I carry with me the lessons I learned in life and hopefully, I can make a difference in this world in my own little way.
’til my next post.
